Tensions escalated in the national capital after opposition MPs accused Delhi Police of misbehavior during a protest outside the Election Commission. The demonstration, organised as part of the ‘EC siege’ campaign, saw MPs from multiple parties voicing dissent against the poll body.
According to allegations, police personnel pushed several MPs and even pulled some by their hair during the protest. Opposition leaders have described the incident as an unacceptable breach of democratic norms and an attempt to intimidate elected representatives.
Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee reacted sharply, calling the incident an “attack on democratic rights” and an example of “police brutality.” Several other opposition parties echoed similar concerns, demanding accountability from the authorities.
The confrontation has further deepened the political divide, with opposition parties accusing the central government of using law enforcement to suppress dissent. Delhi Police has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations.
